Hello,
For the month of September, we have been primarily focusing on functional money skills. We will continue
to work on functional money skills through October. The students have been working on skills such as
identifying coin and dollar amounts, counting up coins and dollars, adding the price of two items together,
identifying an items price when looking at a list of various items, paying with the next dollar up when
purchasing an items, producing an amount of money when given the amount in verbal or written form,
and making and counting change.
Students have worked on the skills through both group and independent work using play money,
real money, teacher made worksheets, market math packets, shopper/buyer role play activities,
grocery story games, various money activities, various programs on the Chromebook, and games/activities
on the Smartboard.
Students are encouraged to continue working on these skills at home. These skills can be practiced by
allowing your children to use money to purchase items at the store and counting their change, practicing
counting and producing amounts of money at home, and through various online money programs.
